Kindergarten Camp Rocks!

Here are my 5 lovely ladies after spending the afternoon baking chocolate chip pumpkin muffins :)  We were careful to taste the chocolate chips before adding them to the batter, to "make sure they were okay"...that is always a rule here.  This is such a sweet group of girls.  One of them kept saying "I feel so good when I help my friends."

Pumpkin Season is open at Bare Feet Creations!

This week we are making chocolate chip pumpkin mini-muffins!  YUM!  My older girls came today and we whipped out a ton of mini-muffins.  My house if filled with the coziest, yummiest smell of Fall.  It's hot out, but we are still welcoming Fall here.
Here are the girls mixing the ingredients together.

Filling tiny tins is harder than you might think!  We all resisted the urge to lick our fingers and kept it "clean."

I just LOVE this last photo with one of my first grader's awesome art on her recipe page.  The girls will all go home at the end of the year with their own recipe book filled with recipes of the goodies we make here at camp.  The muffins are filling the skeleton basket, ready to greet parents when the arrive to pick up their girls.

Pizza!

Each of my "Bare Foot Campers" made a homemade pizza to take home to feed their appreciative  families tonight!  We had such  fun.  JUST as we were finishing putting the cheese on, THE ICE-CREAM man came through the cul-de-sac...what's a mom to do?  Send 8 rushing, screaming, happy, darling girls outside to stop him OF COURSE.  Popsicles all around.  We had a really, really fun day today.  Thanks to all the parents who lend me their daughters for creative play!
We also read "Heart Bread." This is SUCH a great book for kids, about how there are 2 kinds of breads.  Bread of flour and yeast, like we made today and "Heart Bread" where you make bonds and trust with people you love that make you feel safe and special.  The girls were so quiet as I read this.  It was the perfect fit.  I put a link to it to Amazon if you want really special book to add to your collection.  I highly recommend it.

My girls will come home with homemade pizza ready for the oven this week.  They get to roll their own dough and assemble their pizzas!

Thin Mint Week

This week in camps, we made "Thin Mints."  I do believe they even taste better than the classic Girl Scout version if I do say so myself!  I put " Rockabye Lullabye, U2" on the ipod and the girls got so quiet as they decorated the containers to hold these cookie treasures for their loved ones.  Check it out (warning: these kids are super cute!)

1 Day Halloween Camp for Boys and a 1 Day Halloween Camp for Girls

Spend an afternoon with Chrissie creating Halloween heirlooms. Enjoy my house, as it will be decked out with
 fun Halloween decorations everywhere.
It’s aHalloween Party!

First we will stamp our hands with special fabric paint to create an heirloom spider wall hanging mini-quilt. The kids will decorate the spiders with eyes and write their names by the web. These mark your child’s age and love of Halloween forever. Two button tacks are included for hanging the project.

Next the kids will sew their own Halloween pillowcase. Sewing will be closely supervised by me. Depending on the child’s age, they may be pressing the presser foot while I handle the project with my hands.

We will make an eerie mummy candle! The candle is battery operated, so no danger here! The kids will glue googly eyes and cheese cloth to the jar, and use pinking shears to make the fabric top, complete with a ghoulish green rubber band. These guys look FANTASTIC glowing on your mantel during the season and last from year to year.

We will enjoy a Spooky snack and some Halloween Story books and some supervised free play as we finish our art.

Monday, October 18: Girls' Camp
Monday, October 25: Boys' Camp

Inspiration of the Day!

Off to the right of my blog is a spot for a PHOTO OF THE DAY that provides me, and ideally you too,  inspiration to create.  I try to change this photo daily.  That of course doesn't always happen...laundry, kids, dogs, cats, errands, homework, spills, you get the scene, but I try.  Today's photo is especially inspiring for me:  A pile of Halloween Fabric!  I have the day to myself, my sewing machine and my dog and am in the process of sewing little tiny mini "quilts" that will be the home for a child's handprint disguised as a spider.  Check back soon for a photo of the completed model.  I will be offering this camp to my Kindergarten Campers, AND will be hosting special one day camps, one for girls and one for boys (finally), to celebrate Halloween.  Details announced soon.

First Week of Camps

Our first week of camps at Bare Feet Creations went by fast.  We had such fun.  Both camps embellished aprons...we did some iron-on designs and added treasures to the pockets.  I overheard girls say they will use the aprons for:  dog training, cooking, art, gardening, beach combing.  This photo is from my older girls' camp.

Kids' Camps are starting this week!

With a trip to IKEA (love that place) and some time cleaning and arranging I am all set for this years kids' camps!  This photo makes me happy.  Can't wait to use everything in the basket with the kiddos.
