Monthly Girls' Camp

My Monthly girls met today and we spent the afternoon in Valentine Bliss!  What a lovely group of girls they are.  Some girls are starting to sit at the machine to do some of the sewing of their pillowcases!

We made Valentine Fortune Cookies!

It is fun to watch their friendships grow as they create together.

Here the girls are pretending to be bats while hearing a funny Valentine story.
Lollipop flower Valentines!

I can't wait to see them again next month for a St. Patrick's Day!

Boys' Valentine Camp!

Yesterday my house was filled with BOYS!  :)  I think they all had a good time creating some treasures to take home.  My favorite part of the day, by far, was listening to them come up with fortunes for their Valentine Fortune Cookies....after listening to little girl fortunes for two camps straight (some of which are published in a recent post), this was.....surprising, entertaining and fascinating.  I should have had a grad student in need of a thesis topic here to see the difference between boys and girls.  MOST of the boys' fortune suggestions highlighted:  Poop and death and sports.  The girls highlighted words: Love, flowers, rainbows and puppies!  :)  Kids are the greatest.  Here is a look at how the day went:

From the photo above, you can see they don't really sit still.  Next time I am incorporating a break in the middle to play an outside game to get their wiggles out.  I am learning.  :)

And last but not least, what my bathroom sink looked like afterwards! LOLOL.  This is PAINT from a handstamp craft, NOT  blood!  :)   Until next time....

It's beginning to look a lot like Valentine's Day!

Today my little ladies and I put some Natalie Merchant on the ipod, ate some homemade chocolate chip bran muffins and oranges from the neighbor's tree and then got BUSY!
We made this super cute and easy card stock hearts:

My daughters both attended today's camp and have been spending the evening adding these darling hearts onto garlands for their rooms.....

We also made heirloom dish towels with hand prints that formed a heart shape so that parents can "freeze time" for a while and remember these childhood days - oh, and also, it was crazy hair day at one of the kiddo's school today!     :)

The girls also sewed pillowcases today (we were BUSY).  I like to do them a bit early so they have a few weeks to enjoy them before the holiday has flown right by...

More from me soon....Kindergarteners tomorrow, Boys Camp the next day and Mom's Night Out the next!  This is a crazy busy week for me and I am loving every minute of it and so genuinely thankful for all your support!  As always, it makes my day to hear from you!  Leave me a comment.

Kids say the darndest things!

We are making Valentine's Fortune Cookie Cones these days.  Here are a few fortunes written by a 5 1/2  year old girl:

If you take a bath without your mom or dad asking, you'll get to play longer.

If you have a birthday, and it is a surprise party, there might be a Strawberry Shortcake inside.

Candy is a rainbow, love is fun, love is the funnest thing of all.

Flowers are beautiful, flowers smell sweet, flowers are many different colors.

If you visit me here on my blog, please drop me a note, so I know you've come!

Kindergarten Camp Creations

Today in Camp we made Lollipop flowers (while wearing the wool heart hand bands we made two weeks ago...it is good to feel appreciated)!

And we made paperheart chains
And we decoupaged for the first time....we put our initials on pink wind chimes.  We used the Cricut that Chirssie got for Christmas! What fun.  One of my little girls was sooooo excited because she already has windchimes hanging on her playhouse and can't wait to add this one to her collection.

Re: New Monthly Boys' Camp Announced

Thursdays 2:45 – 5:15 $36.00 per session

First, we’ll wash hands and eat a provided healthy snack. Your child will come home after each session with creations they have made during our special time together, whether it be something yummy to eat or a special craft. The cost of the camp includes all materials and snack. We often eat a treat we make (sugar and gluten). If time permits we will have a little story time with seasonal story books, or perhaps a little time of supervised “free play.” By signing up for this camp, you are making a commitment to all three camps (I work with the CUSD calendar, so my camps end in May). If something changes and you do end up needing to cancel, two weeks’ notice is appreciated so that I can fill your child’s spot. Please pay monthly by the 5th of the month.  Sign-ups are first come first served and I have spots for 8 boys!

Thursday, March 10 St. Patrick’s Day Camp : We will make Green pillowcases, make/drink shamrock shakes and make green goldfish crackers to bring home for the family.

Thursday, April 14 Easter Camp : Make an Easter/Spring pillowcase (of course ) and paint an heirloom wooden Easter Egg to put out year after year. We will also embellish a mini-quilt wall-hanging with our hands creating a darling Easter Basket.

Thursday, May 5 Mother’s Day Camp : Can’t tell you, it’s a secret!

Kindergarten Camp

Kindergarten Camp grew last week by one more darling girl, so I took their picture to mark the occasion before we entered the house to make Goldfish Crackers.
They are SO much fun!

Gold Fishin' It!

Today the ladies made their own Gold Fish Crackers and boy was this activity a hit!  When the girls are really quiet, I know they are LOVING what they are doing!  Who doesn't like rolling dough and cutting it out with cute little shapes?  Plus, these taste DIVINE and are so easy to create!  I like that there are no artificial colors or flavors in them.  I am posting the recipe for you at the end of this blog entry.  I'd love to hear from you.

Bare Feet Creations' Gold Fish Crackers
• 1 C all-purpose flour

• 4 T  butter, cut in pieces
• 8 oz cheddar cheese cut in pieces
• 1/2 t salt
• 1/2 t fresh-ground pepper
• A fish cookie cutter. I got mine from Hobby Lobby

1. Pulse the flour, butter, cheese, salt, and pepper together using a food processor until the mixture resembles coarse meal.

2. Pulse in some cold water, one tablespoon at a time, until a ball of dough forms (about 3 to 4 tablespoons).

3. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill at least an hour.

4. Spray a cookie sheet with nonstick spray.

5. Roll the dough out to about 1/8-inch thickness.

6. Cut out as many crackers as possible.

7. Place them 1 inch apart on the prepared baking pans.

8. Bake at 350 F until golden and crisp - 15 to 20 minutes.

Out of the mouths of babes!

At one of my camps this week the girls starting saying "Chrissie!!!! We wish we could live with you!"   As if that in itself wasn't cute enough, I went with it and said something like "YEAH!  We'd craft all day and make pizza and go on walks.....but....WAIT," I said.  "Your Moms would MISS YOU SO MUCH, this won't work!" and one of my cutie pies said "...Well...they'd have memories!"
I LOVE MY JOB!

Boys Valentines Day Camp

Thursday
January 27
2:45 - 5:15
$36.00

Spend the afternoon with Chrissie creating Valentine's Heirlooms.
We will make a Valentine's Day Pillowcase they will love to sleep on year after year.
We will also make Valentine Meringue Fortune Cookie Cones!  These are GORGOUS and fun to make and will have a treat and fortune hidden inside.  The boys can write their own fortunes, or use those that are provided.  They will go home with several to give out to the special people in their lives.
We will also stamp paint their hands in a heart shape on a tea towel.  I love this project because it freezes time and my kids love going back to past projects to see how much their hands have grown.  It will be something you can use or display for years to come.
Lastly we will make "Lollipop-Flower Valentines."  The boys can write personal messages on each Valentine petal or choose to leave them blank and use them as a decoration.  They will go home with several displayed in a small glass vase.

I have room for 8 boys and really look forward to creating with the boys!

Mom's Night Valentine Camp!

Mom’s Night Out
Valentine’s Night
Saturday, January 29
6:00 – 9:00
$35.00 (Includes all materials and munchies/drinks)

My Christmas Nights we SO MUCH fun, that I wanted to do it again, this time celebrating Valentine’s Day! I hope you can join me for a night away from the kids and with girlfriends, yummy snacks and wine while making Valentine’s Projects that you will go home with that night. Treat yourself to a night of fun!

- Our main project of the night is a Valentine Advent (Count Down) Calendar. My kids LOVE the Christmas Countdown so much I decided to add this tradition to Valentine’s Day, but family style. This project is so cute and is a 12 day countdown to the big day. It will be in a “box of chocolates form” but isn’t about candy at all. You and the kids will have a choice of which “chocolate” to choose for which day. Each “Chocolate” will have an activity of your choice, for instance “Family Foot Rub Night” or “Bring Goodies to your local Fire Station” or even other ideas of you own, to create a sense of love and sharing and kindness to others on the days leading up to February 14th. This is a sweet project you can use every year to start a new tradition. Roll up your sleeves, get out the Modge Podge, cute papers and get creative with me.

- We will also be decorating glass votives with beautiful, subtly colored Epsom salts. They result in a cool, wintery effect when lit and displayed. You will go home with a crystal tray to display several gorgeous sparkly glass votives you make that night.

-You will learn a technique to make delicate hanging heart decorations and will go home with a few and the knowledge to make more. These are fast and easy, but give a beautiful and festive feel to your house. I have many of them hanging from my ceiling fan in the front room!

Hair Clip Week

This week we are making hair bands, clips, barretts and bobby pins at camps!  We will be making mini wool roses, thanks to my friend Tracy who taught me how to make them.  They are simple and so beautiful!
