Chore Chart Camp Fun!
This morning I was lucky enough to have several girls over to make chore charts. Two of my kiddos had never sewn on a sewing machine before, ever and were WIDE EYED and PROUD. What an honor for me to teach them how to start. We also made rick rack headbands which turned out really cute. Take a look at a couple of the students and their creations.
Now to get on with those chores!! :)

Come learn to piece a quilt and have fun!
Churn Dash Quilt Camp For Adults!
Quilt Size: 44" x 44”
Mondays
September 13, 20 and 27
6:30-9:30
$50.00 + $8.00 Pattern FeeBring your sewing machine over to my place and learn to piece!. You will learn accurate rotary cutting skills, accurate ¼ inch piecing, half square triangles, pressing, simple nine patch construction, setting a quilt on point and adding borders all in this one class. In this class we make the TOP ONLY (this means you will not leave the class with a quilted and finished quilt. You can send it out to be quilted or quilt it yourself at a later date). The model is done in a simple two colored scheme of red and white, but you can make a delicious fall colored quilt, or a baby quilt or that special Christmas quilt you have been wanting to make. Contact me well before class if you have questions about fabric choices (flannel is okay too). I usually don’t prewash my fabrics, but that is a personal preference on your part. You can if you want to, and if you do, please press all fabrics neatly before class. You will need a rotary cutter, mat and ruler, which can be a large investment. Usually quilt shops will sell all three tools in a bundle at a discounted rate to get you started. We have three local quilt shops: Morning Star in Paradise, Honey Run Quilters in Chico and The Rabbit Hole in Chico . JoAnn’s also sells supplies. I recommend only, Omnigrid rulers, and Olfa Rotary Cutters and mats (or Omnimat). These tools can be ordered through Amazon and I have a link to items I recommend right here on my page, to the left. Click the link and it will take you right to Amazon.
I recommend buying fabric only from a quilt shop as the quality if FAR SUPERIOR than a chain fabric store. Great quality tools/products yield great quality results! The pattern fee buys you one package of Variety ½ Square Triangle Paper and leaves you with several sizes for you to go home with and make more quilts. I will have it ready for you at class. I’ll supply chocolate for us to munch on.

Inside the Rainbow Cake
I forgot to post photos of the inside of Jaynie's Rainbow Cake! Check it out! This cake was featured by Kaitlin Flannery on The Martha Stewart Show last month. I just used Duncan Hines (the best brand for boxed cake mix, btw) White Cake mix (I used 2 boxes) and used Wilton Dyes. I did use Kaitlin's Butter Cream recipe (on Martha's site) andit was SPECTACULAR and very easy to make. 19 egg whites went into the cake and frosting!

Spots left in Chore Chart Camp
I do still have a few spots left in my Chore Chart Camp. Reserve your daughter's spot today!
Friday, July 30 10:00-12:00
$25.00 (includes all materials and a snack)
Ages: 1st grade – 6th Grade girls
I designed this quilted chore chart last year and my girls use it every day, as do some of my friends’ kids. They seriously love it. At night, after bed, parents clip up the chores they would like their child to do the next day. As the child finishes the chores, she puts the tags in the clear pocket at the bottom. My favorite (and my kids’ favorite) is “Chore of Choice”…window washing, car cleaning, etc!
Your child will create a chore chart at my house. Most of the sewing will be done by me beforehand. They will get to operate the machine, sewing on the large rick rack (color of their choice), under my close supervision. There will be a choice of clips to pick from as well. Send your child with the ideas of chores you would like to see on the chart, and they will receive chore tags to decorate during the camp as well.

Pillowcase Sleep Over
To celebrate my daughter's birthday, we made pillowcases with rainbow sleeves to remind us of the rainbow cake we ate that night. Some of the girls had NEVER sewn before, so it was magical watching them create something very special, right before their eyes. The photo below shows one of my daughters sewing for the very first time! The girls collected all four of our animals to help show off the pillowcases.
We make seasonal pillowcases in my Kindergarten Camps and in my 1st/2nd Grade Camps.

First Tomato
Here it is: FIRST TOMATO OF THE SEASON!
I am about to layer it on sourdough, add fresh mozzarella, olive oil, balsamic and let it visit my oven broiler for just a few minutes!! Picking it reminded me so much of one of my favorite kid's stories, "First Tomato" by Rosemary Wells...just the best! I added a widget to the side of the blog if you don't already know of this great book (one of 3 in a great little, tiny series).
The tomato is sitting on one of my published quilts. This quilt was featured in Better Homes and Garden's Fall 2008 Best Quilt Shop issue. Honey Run Quilters was fortunate to be chosen as one of the 10 Best Quilt Shops in the USA! At that point I had worked there 13 years.

Apricot Jam Day!
The girls and I received a HUGE box of free apricots last week, so we turned a lot of them into jam. That's cousin Kelly doing some chopping. It was lots of work, but yielded delicious and long lasting results!

Summer Quilt Camp Fun!
Last week 6 ten year old girls made their own quilts at Quilt Camp. They learned about half-square triangle paper and can now go home and create new designs from what they learned at camp! Each quilt looks different from the next and all are so gorgeous! I couldn't be prouder of them.
